The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Engineering ranks 15th nationally in U.S. News & World Report‘s 2020 list of top undergraduate engineering programs.

The college sits eighth among public universities in the rankings, which also include specialty engineering areas. The College of Engineering scored top-25 accolades for its undergraduate programs in:

Biomedical engineering (24th)
Chemical engineering (sixth)
Civil engineering (17th)
Computer engineering (14th)
Electrical engineering (17th)
Environmental engineering (16th)
Industrial/manufacturing engineering (10th)
Materials engineering (18th)
Mechanical engineering (17th)

Nuclear engineering, a discipline not included in the 2020 program rankings, remains second nationally.

The rankings are based on surveys of deans and senior faculty members at peer institutions, with two surveys going to each engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The publication has separate rankings for institutions that grant doctoral degrees and those that offer only bachelor’s or master’s.

UW-Madison as a whole ranked 13th among public institutions and 46th overall in the publication’s national universities list. The university also scored well in categories such as best college for veterans (11th among publics), best value schools (13th among publics) and academic programs to look for (seventh among publics).

UW-Madison’s U.S. News & World Report laurels come on the heels of strong showings in the Center for World University Rankings (25th in the world) and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (27th in the world, 19th in the U.S.).
