Proud Badgers: First-ever day of giving a success

Written By: Staff

April 9, 2019, was an incredible, first-ever day of giving at UW-Madison.

In the span of 1848 minutes—a nod to the university’s founding in 1848—alumni, friends, and donors across the globe united their passion for our college and supported the people, places, and programs that make it outstanding. Thanks to the support and passion of many people, Day of the Badger was a day to remember!

In total, our college and departments received 443 gifts and raised nearly $70,000.

We also had great participation in our selfie and thank-you challenges—and five of our departments earned additional support through the efforts and engagement of our faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends.

At the university level, more than 5,000 alumni and friends made gifts. Our supporters hailed from all 50 states, 14 countries and four continents—and they donated more than $1.8 million to UW-Madison during Day of the Badger.

On social media, more than 16,660 faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends had lots of fun and shared their UW-Madison pride (and lots of awesome selfies and other photos) using #dayofthebadger, a hashtag so popular, it trended globally on Twitter!
