MS&E student wins award for fire safety research

Written By: Sam Million-Weaver

In recognition of her pioneering work to advance fire safety in the built environment, materials science and engineering PhD student Laura Hasburgh received the 2019 Margaret Law Award from the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. The award was established in 2018 to honor individuals who make significant engineering contributions for fire-safe buildings. Working with MS&E Professor Don Stone, Hasburgh focuses on the effects of fire on wood strength, which is essential for designing flame-resistant timber buildings.
