Megan McClean, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering, is leading one of four projects across the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus that have earned funding through the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation Accelerator Microbiome Challenge Grant.
McClean, who studies biological signal processing, is leading a project to develop a smart probiotic for programming fungal members of the microbiome along with Kevin Lauterjung, a graduate student in biophysics who’s also a part of her lab.
“WARF is thrilled to advance the next generation of innovations that leverage the dynamic field of the microbiome,” says Erik Iverson, CEO of WARF. “Our Accelerator Challenge Grants provide funding not readily available from government funding agencies to do proof-of-concept work critical to build momentum behind technologies with high societal impact and revenue potential.”
