Bier to serve on National Academies committee on risks of nuclear war, terrorism

Professor Vicki Bier, who recently retired from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and is an affiliate of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, will serve on a National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine ad hoc committee applying risk analysis to the threats of nuclear war and terrorism.

Bier will be one of 14 experts from around the country to serve on the committee, which will assess the suitability of risk assessment methods to the topics, study nuclear policy and consider the implications for national security.

Bier, who is also a research fellow at the Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events at the University of Southern California, has previously applied her work in risk analysis to terrorism and homeland security.
