The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission has appointed Vicki Bier, a recently retired professor of industrial and systems engineering and an affiliate of the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to its Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.

Bier, who has applied her expertise in risk and decision analysis to the nuclear power industry throughout her career, will serve a four-year term on the committee, which advises the commission on safety rules and issues.

She retired in January 2021 after 30 years at UW-Madison.
