BME grad students shine in 100-Hour Challenge

Biomedical engineering grad students Jason Chiang and Layla Barkal helped develop a low-budget test for fungal meningitis during the 100-Hour Challenge in November 2013. Hosted by the Entrepreneurial Residential Learning Community (ELRC), the competition challenges teams to quickly create products and services using materials from the UW SWAP program. Chiang, Barkal, and School of Medicine and Public Health grad student Sumit Kar teamed up to create a simple urine-based early detection system for fungal meningitis. The invention earned the team the competition's top prize for potential revenue. Read more about the competition here.
