Callen, Shaing recognized for plasma research

The leading international journal for fusion research has announced that two of the 10 outstanding papers of 2010 that are candidates for the 2013 Nuclear Fusion Award were authored by members of the UW-Madison Center for Plasma Theory and Computation. The selected papers described results of research on edge pedestals and viscous forces in fusion-relevant tokamak plasmas; lead authors of the papers are Engineering Physics Professor Emeritus James Callen and Engineering Physics Senior Scientist Ker-Chung Shaing. Callen received recognition for the paper, "Analysis of pedestal plasma transport," and Shaing for the paper, "An approximate analytic expression for neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks."
