No gift is too small: Partners in Giving campaign kicks off October 8

Partners in Giving poster

Dear College of Engineering Faculty and Staff:

Together I know we can move mountains. So join me and be a partner in giving.

This year’s Partners in Giving campaign (the state, university and UW Hospital and Clinics employees combined campaign of Dane County) runs Monday, October 8 through Friday, November 30. By joining together to support charities that are local and beyond, we can conquer mountains such as hunger, disease, pain, poverty, injustice and pollution.

This year’s campaign includes more than 500 charitable, social, environmental and civic organizations. I am asking you for your support with a monetary donation for the campaign. I know what some of you are thinking right now: “Tammy, are you serious? You know how much I have less in take home pay from last year!”

I understand you completely and all employees in this campaign find themselves in this same difficult situation—including myself. However, there are many good reasons to give; the need has never been greater. Those of us with steady jobs have an opportunity to help and during previous challenging economic times UW employees have always recognized the need and stepped up to support charities through this campaign. Even during the 2011 campaign, we helped raise $2.5 million.

Remember, a gift of any size can make a difference—even $1 a pay period.

2012 College of Engineering Partners in Giving silent auction items.

You will receive an informational packet from your campaign coordinator. Included in that packet is a campaign booklet and a pledge form. You can also view the list of the organizations and contribute online at the Partners in Giving website. Please take a thoughtful look at the broad range of organizations that receive funds through the campaign. You can make a gift to the general campaign or you can specifically direct it to one or more individual charities or umbrella organizations.

We also have planned a number of special events throughout the campaign. In particular, we will host the annual "Thanks4Giving to the Campaign! Here’s a Slice of the Pie!" event—this year on Tuesday, November 20, from 1 to 3 p.m in the Engineering Hall atrium. When you complete and return your pledge form you will receive a coupon, which you can redeem November 20 for a free piece of pie. You also can stop by and "purchase" a slice of pie for a $1 donation.

Department campaign kickoff events include:

  • October 16—Chemical and biological engineering kickoff event—3:15 p.m. at 1227 Engineering Hall
  • October 19—College administration—Dress Up for a Cause: Badger Day (Drop $1 in the donation jar and wear your favorite Badger gear.)
  • October 22—Civil and environmental engineering—Potato and Chili Bar, 11 a.m. in the Cheney room (Donations accepted.)
  • November 9—College administration—Dress Up for a Cause: Flannel Friday (Drop $1 in the donation jar and wear a flannel shirt.)
  • Ongoing—Chemical and biological engineering—Drop your loose change in the jar outside 2029 Engineering Hall and grab a piece of candy.
  • Ongoing—CHSRA and CHESS—Drop your loose change in the change jar

We also will offer a silent auction again this year. Watch for details about how you can bid! And, like our Facebook page.

Finally, if you decide to participate in this year’s campaign, I want to personally thank you. Together we will inspire, collaborate and achieve. Together we can move mountains.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need additional information. Thank you for your time!
