2020 concrete canoe competitions canceled

Written By: Alex Holloway

UPDATE March 19, 2020: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the American Society of Civil Engineers has canceled all events associated with the 2020 Concrete Canoe competition, including the Great Lakes Student Conference and ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition.

In the interest of the safety of visitors and students and slowing the spread of COVID-19, the University of Wisconsin-Madison will not host physical events associated with the American Society of Civil Engineers Great Lakes Student Conference regional competition in April 2020.

UW-Madison’s ASCE student chapter was set to host the regional concrete canoe competition on April 2-4 at Lake Wingra, near campus. The event was expected to draw 550 participants from 19 universities across the Midwest.

Event co-chair Finley Myers says the team hoped to host portions of the conference associated with the competition online so participating teams could still have the opportunity to advance to June’s National Concrete Canoe Competition.

UW-Madison was also set to host the national competition, on June 13-15.
