Professor Jingshan Li of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering will lead a project aimed at better predicting and addressing acute kidney injury and congestive heart failure.

Li, who is also an associate director of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthcare Systems Engineering, and collaborators at the University of Florida will develop data-analytic methods to predict the risk of the two common but damaging medical complications, as well as patient-centered intervention strategies. Li has a long track record of applying his systems engineering work to healthcare problems, such as workflow bottlenecks and patient readmission risks.

Baxter, a Fortune 500 healthcare company, is funding the one-year project with a $165,249 grant.
