The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers graduate programs leading to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Geological Engineering, and Environmental Chemistry and Technology. Our Ph.D. program is a research degree emphasizing extensive and original approaches to problem solving. Students typically earn an MS first, but may work directly toward the Ph.D. if admitted directly to the Ph.D. program. The Department takes great pride in its achievements, which are reflected by both its graduate students who hold engineering leadership positions throughout the world, and its research publications, which have appeared in prominent engineering journals.
*IMPORTANT UPDATE: GRE scores will not be required for students applying to Civil and Environmental Engineering graduate programs (MS or PhD) for spring, summer, or fall 2021 admission due to challenges taking the exam during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our Ph.D. programs are as follows:
- Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering
- Ph.D. in Geological Engineering
- Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry and Technology
Our department is also affiliated with the interdisciplinary Freshwater and Marine Sciences Ph.D. Program.
