Concrete canoe, steel bridge teams win regionals

The University of Wisconsin-Madison concrete canoe and steel bridge teams are both headed to their respective 2019 national competitions.

The concrete canoe team won its regional event at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Great Lakes Student Conference April 11-13 at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. The UW-Madison engineering students will face other regional winners at the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition June 6-8 at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.

The steel bridge team also topped the regional field in Valparaiso to advance to the national finals May 31-June 1 at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The American Institute of Steel Construction organizes and sponsors the competition.
