10/22/03 Wisconsin ITE Section Dinner Madison, WI This annual event highlights the UW-Madison student chapter.  Seven students attended the dinner, social and presentation.  The presentation was on the fiber reinforced polymer bridge deck on United States Highway 151.
9/4/03 Transportation Seminar by Prof. Kay Axhausen Engineering Hall Prof. Axhausen talked about accessibility and spatial development in Switzerland.  Click here for presentation

4/10/03 Joint UWiTS/ASCE Session: Opportunities in Transportation presented by Dr. David Noyce Engineering Centers Building Dr. Noyce discussed the various opportunities in transportation research. 
3/25/03 West Johnson Reconstruction Project by Mike Statz, MSA Professional Services (Madison, WI) Engineering Hall Mike presented a fascinating overview of a project in the heart of this campus.
3/7/03 "Safety is Everyone's Responsibility" by Rudy Umbs, Chief Highway Safety Engineer, FHWA (Washington, D.C.) Engineering Hall Rudy took us on a tour of Europe. He presented many pictures of innovative types of intersection safety designs, described the different cultural views of transportation, shared many personal stories regarding his experiences while traveling in Europe and compared many aspects of his research and observations with US practices.
2/27/03 "Monona Drive Reconstruction Project" by Rick Schamle, City of Monona Engineering Hall Rick discussed the vision and process guiding the reconstruction of Monona Drive, one of the area's key transportation corridors.
1/12/03-1/17/03 Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting Washington, D.C. UWiTS, the CEE Department and the MRUTC sponsored 12 transportation graduate and undergraduate students to participate in this prestigious event, where they had an opportunity to attend a variety of presentations on the latest transportation research, interact with other students from around the country and network with top engineering professionals from around the world. Several students even presented their own papers. UWiTS will be heading back next year! More information is available at http://www.trb.org
12/10/02 Jenny Grote, 2002 ITE International President Engineering Hall Jenny spent two days at the UW campus promoting ITE and opportunities available in Transportation. She gave four presentations in all to various groups of students including civil engineering undergrads, a small group of women in science and engineering and a larger crowd of UWiTS participants. Her visit was funded in part by a grant awarded by WISELI (Women in Science and Engineering Leadership Institute) and the MRUTC. Jenny has been a great friend of UWiTS since her visit and continues to support ITE student chapters throughout the country.
11/11/02 Transportation Safety Engineering and ITS by Pat Hasson of FHWA (Olympia Fields, IL) Madison, WI Pat's presentation was an excellent look at the "why" and "how" of transportation safety. He explained his interest in this important field, the FHWA's ongoing efforts, and the opportunities available to those who want to make our nation's transportation infrastructure safer.
10/23/02 Wisconsin ITE Section Dinner Madison, WI This annual event highlights the UW-Madison student chapter, and once again we delivered. Over a dozen students showed up for the dinner, social and presentation. All reports were that it was a fun time, well worth the $10 refundable deposit. The presentation was on the proposed parkway north of Lake Mendota, an issue that is pertinent to most students.
10/3/02 Joint UWiTS/ASCE Session: Modern Roundabouts by Mark Johnson, WisDOT District One Engineering Hall UWiTS and ASCE packed room 1610 of Engineering Hall to welcome Mark Johnson of the Wisconsin DOT. He used several multimedia examples to explain the topic of roundabouts and entertain all.
9/17/02 Canadian National Railroad Presentation Engineering Campus One of North America's largest Class I railroads came to campus to recruit for their management program. It was a success in that we had about 60 students at the general presentation that was sponsored by UWiTS that night. CN enjoyed their stay and hopefully will return to recruit at the UW in the future. More information on careers at CN can be found at www.cn.ca/careers.

8/4/02-8/7/02 ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit Philadelphia, PA Two UWiTS student representatives made the trip out to Philly for the conference, supported by our organization's funds and the MRUTC. Both students had an excellent time, taking in the knowledge and culture of an excellent meeting.
6/21-6/24/02 ASCE National Student Conference, 150th Anniversary University of Wisconsin-Madison For more information on the results and highlights of the conference, please visit their website at www.cae.wisc.edu/~asce150. UW-Madison performed very well in all competitions. A big THANK YOU goes out to all the project coordinators and volunteers.
6/19-6/21/02 ITE District 4 Annual Meeting St. Paul, MN This one and one half day conference featured presentations about many different topics in transportation. UW-Madison faculty member Keith Knapp presented an update on the Deer Vehicle Crash Clearinghouse project. There were also tours of the Hiawatha Rail Corridor (LRT) and an award ceremony/meeting at the conference.
5/3/02 Road trip to Milwaukee Transportation facilities of Milwaukee, plus Miller Park The UW Transportation Society student group visited the following locations that day: UPS Sorting Facility in Oak Creek, the Port of Milwaukee, Traffic Operations Center (MONITOR), Marquette Interchange and Miller Park. We received presentations and/or tours at each of these facilities. Pictures should be available soon on this site.
3/16/02 Lance Lunsway, Director, UW Transportation Services 2265 Engineering Hall Mr. Lunsway gave an excellent presentation on what UW Transportation Services provides to this campus and what is being planned for the future. Even better was that this presentation came only days after the new parking plan for this campus was announced. This plan included increased costs to the users, faculty and staff. 3/6/02 ITE Dinner, Wisconsin Section Milwaukee, WI Four members made the trip during the middle of the week, enjoying an excellent dinner and presentation by Professor Robert Eger of UW-Milwaukee. His presentation was on the outsourcing of transportation functions. Link to the PowerPoint presentation.
2/18/02 Transport 2020 - Alternative Modes of Transportation for Madison Dane County: Light Rail, Commuter Rail, Busways, etc.

2265 Engineering Hall Over 20 students and faculty from around the campus came to listen to an excellent presentation on the future of transportation in Madison and the surrounding communities. 1/12/02-1/17/02 81st Annual Transportation Research Board Meeting Washington D.C. UWiTS and the CEE Department sponsored about six students to attend this conference. More info on this conference can be found at http://www.trb.org/, the organizations website. UWiTS sponsored about six students to attend this conference, all expenses paid. Additional sponsorship came from the Midwest Regional University Transportation Center.
11/7/01, 11/8/01 Campus visit by two Kittelson and Assoc. representatives out of Portland, OR Engineering Campus Kittelson & Assoc. were gracious enough to not only have two of their representatives present to our group, but also to conduct several interviews of our members the day after the presentation. We look forward to working with them in the future.
