Introduction

We are a University of Wisconsin - Madison student group participating in a NASA sponsored program to fly experiments aboard the C-9 Reduced Gravity Laboratory (KC-135a pictured at right).  Based out of the Johnson Space Center, in Houston, Texas, this program sponsors select teams of undergraduate students from across the country.

Our project is to develop and research a control method of a liquid metal acting as a liquid wall radiation shield.

The primary goal of this experiment is to test the feasibility of such a shield concept for use in a microgravity environment.  A shield such as this could be used to shield spacecraft components from the radiation present in space.  Additionally, a shield of this nature could be used for advanced fusion concept designs, as deemed necessary by the given designs.
