Klothes for Kenya's Kids
Alongside Elvehjem Elementary, during the Spring 2007 semester we ran a clothing drive for the
Nyumbani Children's Home
in Kenya that houses children affected in some way by HIV/AIDS. Our sister Ashley Poenitzsch organized everything. It ran from February 12th - April 20th and we received a TON of clothing!!! The clothes were sent to Kenya over the summer. A special thank you to Polygon for their generous contribution of $500 to help with the costs of overseas shipping and customs fees and to all the donors that made this drive possible :)
Update: This is an email that was recieved from our contact in Kenya:

Hi Ashley: Finally the clothes are in the village and have been given to the kids! I went there on Thursday, and we gave them out early Thursday evening. We seperated girls from boys, laid them all out on a table and as the kids walked through the village on their way home from school we invited them in. They had never seen such a display!! They had such fun trying things on and picking something out. They have so little, mostly wear the school uniforms Nyumbani provides. What a wonderful gift you sent! They loved looking at the pictures of the American kids too. There was a photographer there and he took some great pictures. I will see him this week and he will give me a cd of the pics, I will give it to you when I return which is in 9 days!
Please thank everyone for their generosity and tell them what a huge difference you made. That night as I walked through the village I could see the kids proudly wearing their new clothes!
love Susan
