Research/Career Interests

My current doctoral research is focused on the gendered construction of academic engineering through disciplinary and interdisciplinary boundary definition in engineering and the social and historical organization of academic engineering practice.

With my master's work, I wanted to develop a different way of talking with undergraduate women engineering majors about women's historical and persisting underrepresentation
in engineering.

In Fall 2005, I am teaching a course called “Diversity in the College Classroom” for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) graduate students who are interested in learning how to teach better.  The course is focused around the topic of diversity – what we mean in STEM when we use the term in different contexts, and what impact these definitions might or should have on how we organize and teach our STEM courses.
