Certificate in Technical Japanese Studies for Professionals

This certificate program is designed to help the technical professional gain reading and translation skills in technical Japanese and conversational ability in modern, colloquial Japanese. In order to receive the certificate, students must complete a minimum of 18 credits in approved courses related to Japanese language and Japanese technological progress. Courses are offered by the Department of Engineering Professional Development (EPD) and the Department of East Asian Languages and Literature.

Technical Japanese Courses

The following two courses, representing six credits, are required:

  • EPD 374, 3 cr, fall
    Intermediate Technical Japanese I

  • EPD 375, 3 cr, spring
    Intermediate Technical Japanese II

Twelve elective credits may be chosen by the student from the following list of courses.

  • EPD 330, 3 cr, fall
    Basic Technical Japanese I

  • EPD 332, 3 cr, spring
    Basic Technical Japanese II

  • EPD 430, 3 cr, fall
    Japanese for Business and Industry

  • EPD 530, 3 cr, spring
    Advanced Technical Japanese Seminar

  • EPD 630, 3 cr, fall, spring
    Research in Japanese Technical Literature

  • EPD 699, 1-3 cr, fall, spring
    Independent Study (Technical Japanese)
