EPD 630 Research in Japanese Technical Literature

Course objective:
To provide an opportunity to explore the recent Japanese technical literature in a field chosen by the student.
Course description:
Course activities focus on searching through the Japanese literature, scanning titles, detailed reading of primary literature and preparing translations or abstracts of specific documents.
In the process, each student will create a specialized glossary of technical terms in his/her chosen field. Topics and readings are selected to reflect the specific student's interest.
Prerequisite:
Three years of Japanese language instruction.
Homework:
An individual program of study is established for each student. The student will submit translations and reports via e-mail according to a mutually agreed-upon plan.
Exams:
None. Grade will be based solely on translations and reports submitted according to the individual student plan.
Computer requirements:
Access to the Internet and e-mail; the student's computer should have Japanese language capability.
