Course objective:
To provide practice in reading and translating portions of recent Japanese books dealing with the Japanese economy and business practices in Japan.
The instructor will provide photocopies of all readings.
Course description:
Readings introduce Japanese vocabulary and expressions that appear frequently in a business context.
Topics include the structure of the Japanese economy, Japanese corporations and their activities, and the relationship between government and business in Japan.
Prerequisite:
Two years of Japanese language instruction.
Homework:
Translation assignments will be made biweekly.
Homework will be submitted and returned via e-mail.
Exams:
None.
Grade will be based solely on biweekly translation assignments.
Computer requirements:
Access to the Internet and e-mail.
