    Personal Statement

    My philosophy of librarianship:

#1 EXPERTISE: "The buck stops here." I commit to assisting faculty, staff, students and the public at a level consistent with UW-Madison's status as the only RU/VH (Research 1) institution in the state. I commit to continually improving my subject knowledge and search tool expertise in general and bio/med/chem/materials engineering. If I can't track down an answer, I can refer you to possible sources, or consult those sources and get back to you as needed.

#2 CONVENIENCE: "Have laptop, will travel." I will provide services beyond traditional office hours and outside the physical library building. I will assist you in person or by phone, postal mail, e-mail, instant messaging, text messaging, voice over IP, video conferencing, or any other means of communication.

#3 CUSTOMIZATION: "Other duties as assigned." I will apply my skills in retrieving, organizing, managing and sharing information in innovative ways to meet the library's and users' needs.

#4 PERSONALIZATION: "Library as face, as well as place." I commit to developing my understanding of the information needs and behaviors of bio/med/chem/materials and general engineering learners and researchers, in order to match them with appropriate resources, tools and services. I will build one-on-one relationships with users both within and outside of library or academic functions.

#5 EDUCATION: "Teach a person to fish..." I will participate in the development of user knowledge and skills for retrieving, organizing, managing and sharing information. I commit to continually improving my pedagogical and academic technology skills.
