| Mechanical Engineering Building, 1513 Engineering Drive |

Next to ERB is the stately Mechanical Engineering Building, the first structure on the present engineering campus that was built specifically for engineering. It is headquarters for the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial and Systems Engineering departments, as well as many laboratories and a recently refurbished student study area. ME houses the Department of Engineering Physics working nuclear reactor.
The 70-plus-year-old building underwent extensive remodeling beginning in 2003. The $33 million project added a new four-story structure in the center of the building on the site of the old “sawtooth” section, which was built in 1921. The remainder of the old building was completely renovated. The building's original facade was restored.
