Engineering Mall

No matter what the season, people can't help but pause in Engineering Mall. Just across the street from Engineering Hall, the grassy, tree-lined mall is what many people consider the jewel of the engineering campus — perhaps because on a sunny day the emerald lawn and turquoise sky combine to make the perfect setting for the college's majestic silver fountain. Called Máquina, or machine, in Spanish, the fountain was designed by artist William Conrad Severson, who modeled it after an engineer's tool in a plasma lab. Water from the sculpture travels down the mall into a pool at the other end. (Want to know more about Máquina? Click here.)
