| Engineering Hall, 1415 Engineering Drive |
Across the street is Engineering Hall, which was built in phases. The first was completed in 1951; a modern, silver-fronted 1993 addition added offices, two-high-tech auditoria (The Grainger Technology Transfer Auditoria), and for chemical engineering and electrical and computer engineering, new laboratory space.
Engineering Hall houses the college's administration, including Engineering Student Services and the Diversity Affairs Office, and the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Chemical and Biological Engineering.
In addition to laboratory, classroom and office space, you'll also find two exhibit spaces and a number of unique art pieces and artifacts. In fact, "Thomas Edison" often makes an appearance in February to fire up the college's 1880s Edison Dynamo, one of Edison's original generators. And just outside Engineering Hall stands a fellow who truly is a student for life: The bronze sculpture, called "Between Classes" was designed by renowned artist J. Seward Johnson and donated by The Grainger Foundation. Just for fun, watch people try to pick up his very realistic backpack only to discover it's as bronze as he is.
