How good is your college trivia? A new quiz question will pop up on the site every other week — the first correct answer wins the new College of Engineering coffee mug. (Or a COE pen, if you prefer.) An archive of past questions, answers, and prize winners is available if you are interested. Good luck!
The current question was posted on August 27, 2008. Quizzes for fall semester run through December 10, 2008.
Question:
A new radio frequency identification technology (RFID) application under study at UW-Madison addresses the safety and quality of the U.S. donor blood supply. Three national blood centers are partnering with UW-Madison in the study. Name one of them.
Answer: According to an article in the latest issue of Perspective, the college's alumni newspaper, three years ago Rodeina Davis, CIO of the Milwaukee-based Blood-Center of Wisconsin (BCW), asked the UW-Madison RFID Lab, based in the College of Engineering, whether RFID technology could be an upgrade over the current use of bar codes to track blood. BCW became the first of three partners in the research study, joined by Carter Blood Care in Dallas and Mississippi Blood Services in Jackson, Mississippi.
This question was answered by Ahmet Badur.
