The Great Dane

Badger boat and bridge builders took top engineering honors for their efforts in both the Concrete Canoe Competition and the Steel Bridge Competition this month. The teams competed in Madison against 13 other schools. The Madison chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers will try to build on the regional victory by sending teams to the national competition for canoes in Florida and bridges in Alaska. About 20 COE students compete on the Steel Bridge Team. The goal is to build a lightweight, aesthetic bridge that will withstand more than 2500 pounds. More than 30 students work on the concrete canoe team. This is the third year in a row the team has won the Great Lakes regional competition.
