COE graduate engineering ranks 12th in U.S. News and World Report

The 1999 U.S. News and World Report ranking of U.S. engineering graduate programs places the college 12th overall. U.S. News

The rankings are based on five measures of academic quality: faculty resources, research activity, student selectivity, and two measures of institutional reputation achieved by querying engineering deans and practicing engineers who are members of the National Academy of Engineering.

The college also placed highly in three specialty areas. The chemical and biological engineering graduate program ranked fifth, the industrial and systems engineering department ranked eighth and the nuclear program ranked fourth. The college's nuclear program is administered by the Department of Engineering Physics.

"It's an affirmation of the fact that we have outstanding faculty and our research remains on the cutting edge of the industry," says Gilbert A. Emmert, professor and chair of the Department of Engineering Physics. "It's nice to see that that others recognize the quality of our work." More information on the rankings is available at the magazine's rankings website: www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/beyond/bcrank.htm.
