Board of Regents tours engineering campus

Before their September 10 meeting on the UW-Madison campus, the Board of Regents got an up-close look at some cutting-edge technology being developed and used in the College of Engineering.

During their two-hour visit, which included stops at a variety of research labs, the Regents took in:

• an update from Professor Jay K. Martin on projects in the Engine Research Center

• a briefing by Associate Professor Susan E. Babcock on shared instrumentation in the Materials Science Center

• an overview by Michael J. Redmond of undergraduate projects being carried out in the Model Advanced Facility, which he directs

• an orientation on micro-mechanics developments from research assistant Eric Stiers

• an explanation of strategies for designing "novel therapeutic molecules" by Associate Professor Regina M. Murphy

• an update from Assistant Professor Hussain U. Bahia on how the college's Asphalt Research Program is helping bring about better roads in Wisconsin
