| Wisconsin TechSearch Assistance to Industry Growing |
With access to over 500 different databases, Wisconsin TechSearch (WTS) specializes in searches in engineering, science and technology. Since 1991/1992, the amount of online searching WTS has performed for its clients in business and industry has nearly doubled.
TechSearch, the information outreach program of the Kurt F. Wendt Library, provides business and industry access to the information resources at the library and the UW-Madison library network. In addition to providing access to published information--articles, book loans, government reports, standards and specifications-- TechSearch also offers online database searching on any topic of interest to engineers, scientists, attorneys, consultants or marketers.

Online searching offers the advantage of currency in a given field; most databases are updated frequently, on a monthly or weekly basis. WTS has the capability of searching several databases simultaneously. This helps to insure a comprehensive search on a given topic.
"The clients we work with have displayed an increasing awareness and
appreciation of the scope which an online search can cover, as well as
the speed with which they can receive relevant information," says
Wisconsin TechSearch Director Leonard F. Black. "One area which has increased
is that of patent and trademark searching. We search both US and foreign
patent databases for our clients. Patents are useful for a variety of
reasons including information on technology or for competitive
intelligence."
