VCR Destruction

Students tear apart VCRs

By "tearing apart" VCRs, a group of young women gains hands-on experience that may spur an interest in electronics or other technical careers. This workshop, held recently in the Engineering Research Center for Plasma-Aided Manufacturing, was part of "Expanding Your Horizons," an annual career awareness program. Sponsored by the College of Engineering, the program is designed for female students in seventh through ninth grade. In addition to hands-on workshops, participants attended informational sessions and talked with women pursuing science-related professions. (35K JPG)
