Because headlight batteries wear out quickly and bulbs burn out, frequent night bicyclists often find themselves in the dark or at best, the dim.
Frustrated with the amount of upkeep traditional lights require,
mechanical engineering
students Jeffrey Schulman and Eric DeGolier developed the No-Maintenance Integrated Helmet Lighting System.
Within the helmet, solar-charged nickel metal-hydride batteries power LED clusters, which emit light as bright as conventional bulbs.
In addition, the helmet light means cyclists won't need to remove handlebar-mounted lighting systems when their bikes are unattended.
