Voice Lessons

Nicole Werner and Lisa Ruehlow
There are many settings — classrooms, courtrooms and church, to name a few — in which it is inappropriate to shout. Many people with speech disorders find themselves in such situations but are not able to control the volume of their voices. The Portable Voice Calibrator is an inexpensive, portable device speech patients not only can use to monitor their vocal intensity or nasal sounds, but also continuously treat their condition. Biomedical engineering students Nicole Werner (left) and Lisa Ruehlow invented the calibrator.
