Vanderheiden funded to assess Internet accessibility
Industrial and Systems Engineering Professor Gregg Vanderheiden and a team of collaborators received approximately $750,000 in funding from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to develop an online accessibility tool.
The new funding is a result Vanderheiden’s work at the Trace R&D Center on the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII) project. The GPII was created to ensure that anyone can use digital technologies, such as the Internet, regardless of disability, literacy, digital literacy, aging or economic resources.
Vanderheiden and his team will use this funding to develop and test an online tool that can determine what accessibility accommodations are needed for each user. The end goal of the GPII project is personalized accessibility options that automatically adjust to each user.
