Engineers awarded SIRE grants
Several College of Engineering faculty were among the 2014 recipients of Sustainability Innovation in Research and Education (SIRE) grants from the UW-Madison Office of Sustainability. The awards are designed to support sustainability-related research projects, educational innovations, and research experiences for undergraduates. Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Chin Wu and Associate Professor Soyoung Ahn, along with UW-Madison Sea Grant Institute environmental social scientist Jane L. Harrison, received SIRE funding to study the human response to climate-change-induced changes in lake environments. Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Giri Venkataramanan and Department of Consumer Science Professor Nancy Wong received a SIRE grant to explore how electricity pricing schemes might help mitigate the effects of climate change.
