Microbe Detectives, a Milwaukee-based company owned by civil and environmental engineering PhD candidate Trevor Ghylin, won a total of $26,000 in funding in the Rice Business Plan Competition, which took place April 10 through 12 in Houston. The company, which uses genetic sequencing to develop new technologies for water-quality testing, won $1,000 in the competition's challenge round, and Chief Technology Officer Annie Weidert won the competition's $25,000 Courageous Woman Entrepreneur Award.
