Engineer applies new technology in medical robotics
The National Science Foundation has awarded Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor Michael Zinn a $495,154, four-year grant to support his research into surgical robotics. Zinn will investigate a novel medical robotic manipulator concept, previously developed in his lab. It combines flexible and rigid-link construction in a unified structure, thereby harnessing the advantages of both approaches. The research effort will focus on developing an analytical, design and control framework tailored to the new manipulator approach.
