Klein earns several honors

In April, Ouwaneel-Bascom Professor of Mechanical Engineering Sanford Klein received the American Solar Energy Society 2013 Hoyt Clarke Hottel award for significant contributions to solar energy technology. He also recently received the James Harry Potter gold medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and in June, will become a fellow of the International Building Performance Simulation Association.

The Hottel award recognizes Klein’s contributions to educational software for solar energy system design and modeling, his work, as co-developer of the F-Chart, in creating a system to size solar energy systems, and his publication of more than 150 peer-reviewed journal papers. The Potter medal, which includes a $2,000 prize, recognizes eminent achievement or distinguished service in the science of thermodynamics in mechanical engineering, based on Klein's contributions in both teaching and research of thermodynamic principles.
