Vanderheiden project receives $12 million for implementation in Europe

The European Commission has awarded $12 million to a 25-member European consortium to build the second installment of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII), a cloud-computing-based system for removing barriers to technology use based on disability, literacy, age, or other impairments. Industrial and Systems Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Professor Gregg Vanderheiden is the technical lead. Vanderheiden first proposed the GPII in 2008, and the new grant follows a $10 million grant from the European Commission in 2011, titled "Cloud4all," to build the first installment of the GPII.
