ISyE Professor Emeritus George Box passes away
George Box, a former professor of industrial and systems engineering, passed away on March 28 at the age of 93. He first joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1960, when he founded the Department of Statistics. He was a specialist in engineering statistics and the quantitative aspects of quality improvement, and created the Center for Quality and Productivity Improvement with William Hunter in 1985. A celebration of his life will be held May 5 in Madison.
