UW-Madison, college, among top U.S. public universities
In its 2013 edition of Best Colleges, released September 12, 2012, U.S. News and World Report ranked UW-Madison 10th among public institutions and tied for 41st among all national doctoral universities. The College of Engineering ranked 13th overall; judged on nominations from deans and senior faculty, several College of Engineering undergraduate programs ranked in the top 20.
Those programs include:

- Chemical engineering—3rd
- Civil engineering—12th
- Computer engineering—14th
- Electrical engineering—16th
- Environmental engineering—13th (tied)
- Industrial engineering—7th
- Materials engineering—14th
