NSF grant for Suresh study of model simplification

Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Krishnan Suresh has received $238,700 from the National Science Foundation to study rules for simplifying computational models for computer-aided design. The three-year study will explore the effect of simplification on model accuracy and creating algorithms for selectively suppressing features as needed, and could enhance the effectiveness of automated engineering analysis tools in design processes for products such as heat exchangers, aircraft structures, and semiconductor equipment.
