CBE postdoc receives prestigious NSF fellowship
The National Science Foundation has awarded Andrew Markley, a postdoctoral fellow working in Chemical and Biological Engineering Assistant Professor Brian Pfleger’s group, a Science, Engineering and Education for Sustainability fellowship. In his research, Markley is applying synthetic biology disciplines to recycle anaerobic digestate wastewater nutrients into commodity chemicals; he will create a cyanobacterial wastewater treatment biorefinery and assess it, as well as grow genetically engineered cyanobacteria to maximize wastewater bioremediation and chemical production.
