Burfeindt earns award for paper on breast cancer imaging
Matthew Burfeindt, an electrical and computer engineering graduate student, received the first prize award in the Ernest K. Smith USNC-URSI Student Prize Paper Competition for his paper, "SNR-enhanced inverse scattering for microwave breast imaging." He presented his paper during the plenary session at the 2012 National Radio Science Meeting in Boulder, Colorado, in January 2012. The meeting is sponsored by the U.S. National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science and the National Academies. Burfeindt is co-advised by Philip Dunham Reed Professor Susan Hagness and Lynn H. Matthias Professor Barry Van Veen.
