Dean Paul S. Peercy: Facilities growth
The college has undergone major building upgrades during Peercy’s tenure.
The 204,000-square-foot, $53.4 million Engineering Centers Building is a showcase for student organization and innovation, as home to more than 50 student organizations, offices of career services and student leadership, and hands-on engineering space.
The Mechanical Engineering Building project made $50.5 million in renovations and upgrades to the stately Italian Renaissance-style structure originally built in 1930, more than doubling functional work-space and providing adaptable classroom and laboratory designs.
In 2005, the college completed an open-space redesign of the main floor of Engineering Hall to create an exciting central commons for the college, with expansive space for social interaction and teamwork.
In winter 2011, Wendt Commons unveiled the new Wisconsin Collaboratory for Enhanced Learning, which transformed the Wendt fourth floor into space that maximizes technology-enhanced learning, instructor-student feedback and team studying.
Peercy played a lead role in the conceptual development of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, in which three of the five research themes are currently being led by engineering faculty.
He is currently a partner in establishing the Wisconsin Energy Institute Building as a dynamic hub for campus-wide renewable energy research, including a new center that will partner with industry to conduct applied research on energy systems
