Cryogenics Laboratory

The Cryogenics Laboratory houses numerous facilities for low-temperature research. Several research cryostats provide large volume experimental systems operable down to 1.5 K. One system includes a high field, 11 Tesla superconducting magnet.

There are smaller, variable temperature cryostats for materials investigation between 2 K and room temperature. Support facilities for these systems include a 40 ltr/hr helium liquefaction plant, a high capacity vacuum pumping system that provides 35 watts of cooling at 1.8 K, leak detection equipment, and miscellaneous electronic equipment, including a 5000 A power supply and a computer data acquisition system.
