The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a dynamic community of outstanding faculty, dedicated educators and talented students.

Graduate students enrolling in the Materials Science and Engineering Department pursue advanced degrees in Metallurgical Engineering, with both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees offered.

Graduate research in Metallurgical Engineering covers a full range of cutting-edge technologies with an emphasis on engineering. These include metals, ceramics, semiconductors, superconductors, thin films and the next-generation super alloys and composites. There are also active research programs in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Faculty in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering also advise graduate students enrolled in the Materials Science Program.
