Five faculty members in the Materials Science & Engineering Department are members of the National Academy of Engineering.

The five junior faculty members in the Materials Science & Engineering Department have been recognized with two NSF CAREER awards, an AFOSR Young Investigator Award, and placement on the National Academy of Engineering's list of the Frontiers of Engineering between the age of 30 and 45.

The Materials Science & Engineering graduate program is ranked #14 in the country.

The College of Engineering at UW-Madison is ranked #13 in the country.

In 2006, faculty associated with the Materials Science Program published over 250 journal articles.
