    Summary

Our current interest in welding includes three areas. The first area is welding metallurgy, such as liquation cracking and solidification cracking in aluminum arc welds. The second area is dissimilar-metal welding, such as joining aluminum to steel by arc welding. The third area is friction stir welding, including aluminum, magnesium to aluminum, and effect of preheating.

Our current interest in casting includes creep-resistant magnesium alloys - their solidification cracking and microstructural development.

Our recent interest in crystal growth includes growth of single crystals of semiconductors and metals from the melt by the Czochralski, liquid-encapsulated Czochralski, and Bridgman processes.
