| Business Course Recommendations |
By starting early, Materials Science and Engineering students can earn many of the prerequisite courses required by the School of Business for entry directly into their MS or MBA program. With the head start it is possible to earn the MBE in three semesters. The MBS requires two years, even for Business School undergraduates.
The proper courses to elect are as follows:
One Semester of Economic Principles (4 cr.) -- With the changes in the Department of Economics, Econ 101 is the only choice.
An Introductory Course in Statistics (2-3 cr.) -- Although Econ 510 or Bus 570 could be selected, Stat 224 is recommended.
| Course | Credits | Title | Prerequisite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bus. 200* | 3 | Introductory Accounting | Second-sem. freshman standing |
| Bus. 302** | 3 | Managerial Cost Acctg. | Bus. 200 |
| Bus. 510* | 3 | Corporation Finance | Bus. 200, one sem. of economic principles |
| Bus. 520** | 3 | Marketing Management | One semester of econ. principles, and junior standing |
| Bus. 530** | 3 | Organizational Behavior | Junior standing |
| Bus. 330** | 3 | Business Law | Second semester junior standing |
| * | These courses are counted in the Liberal Studies Electives requirement. |
| ** | These courses are counted only in the Free Electives requirement. |
The Business School, like Engineering, has enrollment problems and has limited the number of engineering students who will be allowed to enroll in business courses. To accomplish this the Business School has issued a limited number of spaces each semester which will permit enrollment of engineering students in certain business courses (like Bus. 200 and 530). Dean Wollston in Room 2640 of Engineering Hall should be approached about obtaining these reserved spaces.
For more information on this program, see the UW Graduate School
of Business Bulletin (available from the School of Business, 102
Commercial Building).
