Catalog Description
390 Materials Systems and Design Project II. II; 2cr. This course is a continuation of the two-semester sequence constituting the capstone design experience of MS&E students. It involves analysis of a project, literature survey, experimental design, data acquisition and evaluation, culminating in a project report and presentation. P:MS&E 379.

Course Prerequisite(s)

Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

Students should have completed the majority of the undergraduate core curriculum, specifically the thermodynamics/kinetics sequence (MS&E 330, 331), the physical metallurgy sequence (MS&E 351 & 352), and the basic laboratory sequence (MS&E 360, 361, 362)

Course objectives

The course seeks to promote (1) understanding of real problems in materials science and engineering, (2) creativity in solving open-ended, ill-defined problems, and (3) practice in critical thinking and written and oral communication skills.
